When the snow clears off the Grand Mesa and the trails around Fruita dry out, it's time to get the RV ready for the season. A bit of spring prep — especially after a coach has sat all winter — makes the difference between a smooth first trip and a frustrating one. Here's a practical checklist built for the Western Slope.
If you winterized in the fall (and you should have), start by flushing the antifreeze out of the system and sanitizing the fresh tank and lines. Then pressure the system up and walk the whole coach looking for leaks — this is exactly when a winter freeze-crack shows itself. Catching a cracked line now, at home, beats discovering it at a campsite two hours away.
Winter's freeze-thaw cycles are hard on roof sealant, working last summer's UV cracks wider. Get up top safely and look at the sealant around every vent, the AC, and the seams, and check inside for stains or soft spots. A quick reseal now prevents the most expensive repair there is: water damage.
Run the refrigerator a day ahead to make sure it cools, fire up the furnace and AC, and check the water heater. Test the batteries and electrical — batteries take a beating over a cold winter, and a weak one causes all kinds of downstream headaches. Look over the tires (age and pressure) and the safety detectors while you're at it.
If you'd rather start the season with confidence, a spring RV inspection covers all of this in one visit, on site, and flags anything that needs attention before you head out. We come to you across Fruita and the whole Grand Valley. Safe travels, and enjoy the season.
